Plakias Beach
Plakias, which is located almost 36 km south of Rethymno City, is not just another village in South Crete. It is one of the most popular resorts of the island and a favorite destination for thousands of visitors every year. To a large extend, this is due to its beach, which constitutes one of the longest (1.4 km) and most beautiful beaches in Crete.
The beach is so large that it is impossible for one to feel hard-pressed, whereas the options available are numerous; umbrellas and sun beds, water sports, beach volley fields, snack bars, locker rooms, douches etc.
There are several taverns and hotels in the area, while the beach road is suitable for cycling or walking. The eastern part of the beach is called Paligremnos, with huge vertical rocks, attracting many climbing lovers from all over the world.
If there is strong wind you can seclude to the small beach of Souda, two kilometers west of Plakias. There are a few taverns there, too.
